Iceland held many surprises for us: from geographical diversity (flat, high & wide) to weather-related whims (sunny & stormy) to country-specific conditions (road damage & sulfur smell).

Due to the length of the distances we had to cover, sometimes in just a single day, it was not always easy and there were days when we mainly enjoyed the landscape from the car. Nevertheless, this often bleak country had its peculiarities: I particularly loved the gentian on the roadside and the puffins. Unfortunately, we couldn't venture into the wild highlands with Bernhard (our car) – he had already complained about the road conditions even without the highlands.
